Photography college programs on Long Island for high school students?

I’m in my sophomore year of high school and am interested in pursuing a career of entertainment photography perhaps? Entertainment meaning live bands and such.. Maybe I’ll change my mind eventually, but possibly some college websites which would offer information on this kind of thing would be nice. I need to find a list of colleges whom offer student programs in this field, or photography in general. Please and Thank you!

Kara,
you can also look at the New York Institute of Photography as a course. It wouldn’t interfere with you going to school for other subjects

how long will it take to graduate college if i go in the field of photography?

i want to go to college for photography how long do i have to go to college for?

You don’t.

Unless you know of some company or companies you want to work for that hire a lot of photographers and require a college degree.

If you go to college, its because you want to become a theorist, a researcher or a technician. An example of a theorist is anyone who is into psychology, or who writes books and tries to make sense of general things, morality politics etc. A researcher is someone who looks things up in libraries, scientific journals, or who works in a lab. A technician is someone who runs a machine or a program or applies principles to building machine, like an engineer.

Doctors and lawyers are expected to be a little bit theorists, and a little bit technicians.

Photographers are supposed to be artists. And there isn’t any real way to train artists, except perhaps apprenticeship.

College will probably work against becoming an artist, because during a time that you are most dynamic, and imaginative, you subject yourself to someone else’s grading and approval, and thus waste those years of your life in someone else’s routines. College also has its distractions, and brings on debts that cannot be resolved through bankruptcy anymore.

Lots of people feel that they need college because they expect to work for the government or companies, which base hiring and pay on school achievement.

But lots of artistic careers, like acting, dance, music, painting, illustration, fiction writing, and much photography are still largely freelance or contract based.

People who pay artists, don’t care where they went to school, they care what they can do, how good they are and how reliable they are. Your portfolio is your resume and your college transcript.
